About the event

We are pleased to announce a special new series of online courses and workshops on Buddhist Mind Science. This program is cosponsored by the Vikramasila Foundation and the Dharma Joy Foundation.

These courses are designed for those practicing and studying in the field of mental health, psychology, education, coaching, and other fields that support the healthy development and healing of the mind. This program will provide valuable insights and beneficial tools from Buddhist practices that participants can use in combination with their current modalities to support their own and other’s mental health.

Introduction to Buddhism and Psychology

Monthly Online Course Every 4th Sunday of the month

The first course of Buddhist Mind Science Online Series, Introduction to Buddhism and Psychology, will be starting this Oct.29th 2022.

About the course:

In this course, Khenpo Pema and his students who are conversant in psychotherapy, will emphasize the potential for psychological healing offered in Buddhist teachings. Through these conversations, they will also clarify the similarities and differences between these traditions, offering participants the opportunity to consider the psychological healing found in Buddhism, and the potential spiritual depths accessed in a psychotherapeutic process.

Topics will include the understanding of self and subjectivity, the clinical applications of the Four Noble Truths, and the psycho-spiritual teachings found in the Four Immeasurable.

Format:

  • Six monthly online workshops via zoom. 4th Saturday each month.
  • Lectures, meditation practice, open question and answer               
    • Participants can request specific case study exploration in relation to the topic of that class. ( Participants may email info@ vikramasila.org and inquire regarding this opportunity two weeks prior to the upcoming session.)

        

Language:

  • The course will be taught in English.
  • Translations will be available in Spanish and Chinese
  • Translation into other languages can be organized upon request. Please let us know if language interpretation is needed upon registration.

    • The Four Noble Truth                  
      • Mental suffering, the cause and the way to heal
      • The Concept of Self and sensory Illusions
      • Dharma Practice / Training of the Mind as preventive mental health and Early Intervention

          

    • Abhidharmma and the 52 mental factors
    • The Eight Noble Paths / The Six Paramitas                  
      • Mind body relationship (Mind and actions) /Karmas
      • Precepts and the Importance of lifestyle for mental healing (Healing from traumatic events, addictions)
      • What therapists and educators could learn from the role of a good spiritual friend.
      • The importance of taking care of one’s own peace of mind in order to provide healing to others.
